Brett Hull, I might stop hating you for the next two weeks

Well, the preponderance of Team Canada hockey sweaters around town today means that either canuck fashion has hit a new low or the World Cup of Hockey is in town. I look forward to taunting sullen locals tonight when Team USA spanks Brodeur like a naughty schoolgirl. (I wanted to work in an "I'm gonna make Gretzky's head bleed" line, but Wayne's only working behind the scenes for the hosers.)

See? It is possible to blog about culture and hockey.

I thought Team Canada deserved a two minute penalty for those eyesore jerseys, but it's not like our powerplay would have been able to do anything.

Bah. At least Esche looked good. We'll get 'em in the elimination round.

"American as apple pie" is a common saying; apple pie is frequently served as dessert in the US. (If you've seen the movie, the title "American Pie" makes more sense this way.)
Peaches, on the other hand, don't have this connection. They are grown in Georgia and California (I think) and, if my memory from fifth grade social studies serves, the peach blossom is the state flower of Delaware. But other than that, peaches have very little to do with a sense of American identity.

What's the Canadian equivalent of "apple pie" in national lore, anyway? Tim Hortons and beer?

C'mon, Mr. Superfan number 99.

What's Tim Horton's?

I think that Tim Horton opened one of his now ubiquitous donut/coffee shops before he died and but that his widow spread them around like Johnny Donutseed. They're everywhere in Canada, (there's even one ON campus at McGill), and even in a few border towns in the US like Buffalo.

He died in a car crash driving back to Buffalo after a game in Toronto in the early 70s. Is there any more unfortunate product name to give one's legacy to than "TimBits"?
